What’s Finally Bringing Down Linda Sarsour?

„Will bigotry be the last straw bringing down Linda Sarsour? Sharia-apologist Linda Sarsour just can’t seem to get out of putting her foot in her mouth, slinging anti-Semitic canards these days as if they were her most natural response when challenged on any number of issues.

Perhaps it is.

Sarsour recently defended Congresswoman-elect Ilhan Omar’s post-campaign announcement that she supports the Boycott, Divestment Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel. Omar had come out against BDS during her campaign, despite standing by her own previous rabidly anti-Israel statements. (Those statements employed tried and true anti-Semitic tropes as well.)

Writing about her support for Omar on Facebook, Sarsour railed against the fact that Omar was “being attacked for saying that she supports BDS (Boycott Divestment Sanctions) and the right for people to engage in constitutionally protected freedoms. This is not only coming from the right-wing but some folks who masquerade as progressives but always choose their allegiance to Israel over their commitment to democracy and free speech.”

That last accusation — the well-known “dual-loyalty slur” – has been a favorite among seasoned anti-Semites for decades.

Why is it so pernicious?

The U.S. — well as 31 other nations — are members of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) and have adopted the organization’s definition of anti-Semitism.

Part of that definition includes “accusing Jewish citizens of being more loyal to Israel, or to the alleged priorities of Jews worldwide, than to the interests of their own nations.”

In fact, the BDS movement itself falls under the IHRA’s definition of anti-Semitism by “applying double standards by requiring of [Israel] a behavior not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation.”

It is time Sarsour pays politically for her blatant bigotry.

Although she has managed until now to mesmerize her feminist “sisters” despite her support for sharia law (a decidedly anti-feminist system of government), events on the horizon point to more and more voices from the Left distancing themselves from Sarsour and her ilk for their anti-Semitism.

An article titled “A Record Number of Women Were Just Elected, but the Women’s March Is Imploding” by The Daily Beast details how Sarsour and her fellow organizers of the Woman’s March are fast losing their base for their support of vile anti-Semite and hate preacher Louis Farrakhn, leader of the Nation of Islam.

Most recently actress Alyssa Milano stated she would refuse to speak at the next event if it was organized by Sarsour and the movement’s other leaders who have refused to denounce Farrakhan. Actress Debra Messing joined in for the same reason, criticizing the Women’s March leaders.

Teresa Shook, one of the founders of the Women’s March called on Sarsour and the rest of the leadership of the movement to step down for the same reason, stating:

“Bob Bland, Tamika Mallory, Linda Sarsour and Carmen Perez of Women’s March, Inc. have steered the Movement away from its true course. I have waited, hoping they would right the ship. But they have not. In opposition to our Unity Principles, they have allowed anti-Semitism, anti- LBGTQIA sentiment and hateful, racist rhetoric to become a part of the platform by their refusal to separate themselves from groups that espouse these racist, hateful beliefs.”

Shook’s call presented an opportunity for Sarsour to distance herself from Farrakhan. That was clearly not happening.

In a joint statement, Sarsour, Bland, Mallory and Perez lashed out at Shook, saying she “irresponsibly” spoke out “to take advantage of our growing pains to try and fracture our network.”

Talk about support of democracy and free speech (which, you will remember from Sarsour’s Facebook post quoted above, was the very same thing Sarsour accused her detractors of not having).

In the final say in their defense, Sarsour and her fellow Women’s March leaders wrote, “Our ongoing work speaks for itself.”

That’s one thing we can agree with Sarsour about.“
