Bei den muslimischen Sklavenjagden im Mittelmeer – zur See (Korsaren) – und an den Küsten wurden insgesamt geschätzt 1,5 Mio. Menschen verschleppt und versklavt. Diese Praxis endete erst gegen Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts, indem sie militärisch unterbunden wurde.
